And I've realized that I have more to say than I should plague my instagram followers with. So here is a little catch up on what I've been working on lately.<br />
<br />
I started working on some baby clothes. Girl baby clothes. This adorable pattern is from <a href="http://www.peekaboopatternshop.com/lullaby-line-baby-gown/">Peek-A-Boo</a>. I worked it up with some orange Briar Rose strawberries and a soft orange knit. It didn't take too terribly long, but since it takes about a yard of knit it definatly isn't cheaper to make your own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I also made some quick <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/2014/03/sewing-for-baby-knit-baby-leggings/">Just Hatched leggins from Made by Rae</a>. One with fancy bow cuffs from a tutorial I found on Pinterest and one with little knee patches.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I picked up these adorable Grey Abbey fabrics about the same time Kelby Sews posted her <a href="http://kelbysews.blogspot.com/2014/04/easiest-chevron-quilt-ever-tutorial.html">Easiest Chevron tutorial</a>. It sewed up very easily and I quickly had it quilted and bound. My first try at FMQ flowers and I'm rather proud of them! I don't have a plan for this quilt yet, I may put it up on my etsy shop soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiALAGqe2-6UGb1nmKCNSOLUPt9vb95NG8g7aivTh7cabQbJJtgw9efuOkhghGezZUJkePRBNirO5huWhTH5_oXQhzw0bTkOpTJ01Ti-djtncYvFr5syWeVW8lby6kUcN4tFpI8jKp8-f4/s1600/image+(14).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiALAGqe2-6UGb1nmKCNSOLUPt9vb95NG8g7aivTh7cabQbJJtgw9efuOkhghGezZUJkePRBNirO5huWhTH5_oXQhzw0bTkOpTJ01Ti-djtncYvFr5syWeVW8lby6kUcN4tFpI8jKp8-f4/s1600/image+(14).jpeg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
But soon after this we found out baby number 3 is a boy, I decided I needed to make all 3 boys quilts with the same color scheme. So I pulled together of baby blues and greens and picked out three patterns: a churn dash, and Cluck Cluck Sew's <a href="http://www.cluckclucksewpatterns.com/2014/01/touchdown.html">Touchdown</a> and <a href="http://www.cluckclucksewpatterns.com/2012/10/scout-133.html">Scout</a>. Here are a few that I picked up from Hawthorne Threads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMHOmzA1TgmoNgP2-sDXNrly3C1os42SBo14nORAkWAriaPvO2blXVFf6jWaPnc7KLsCQSPdG37DHlbml4JUVb1xfEwblevLfbDHepGvYq4gBj6IUh4-NAzvkqvu4PkgbZeV6Y1pXOI5Q/s1600/image+%25289%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMHOmzA1TgmoNgP2-sDXNrly3C1os42SBo14nORAkWAriaPvO2blXVFf6jWaPnc7KLsCQSPdG37DHlbml4JUVb1xfEwblevLfbDHepGvYq4gBj6IUh4-NAzvkqvu4PkgbZeV6Y1pXOI5Q/s1600/image+%25289%2529.jpeg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I cut all the fabric all at once. Touchdown and Scout needed 4" strips and churn dash needed 4.5" strips so I cut one of each from about 20 half yards. I power sewed all the footballs in one week and have been slowly working on pieces for the churn dash. I almost started strip piecing for Scout this afternoon but I started work on a different project.<br />
<br />

My recent trick for getting a lot done lately is chain piecing through the day then pressing and ironing at night in the living room while watching 24 with my hubby. We just finished season 1 tonight! We've been so excited about the new season that's on, but bummed that we have to wait so long between each episode.<br />
<br />
Another little project I've been working on is the<a href="http://www.straight-grain.com/p/patterns-and-tutorials.html"> Lua Sleep Sack</a>. I decided to try quilting and love the effect. It's like a quilt dress for a baby. I can't wait to try it out on Little Peanut in our Wyoming winter. Here is a close up of the buttons. I have enough fabric for three more. I may give two to some friends who are having boys in the coming months. Boys are so hard to sew for.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I picked up this thick navy and white decor weight fabric from Joann's and knew I wanted to make a Weekender. I've been wanting to make one for awhile and the inspiration just hit to get it done for our little Memorial day weekend trip. I have the outside all put together. I somehow could not get a 1/2 inch seam allowance with the piping, so the center strip and the outside panels didn't fit together properly. I ended up folding it over on one side and there is soe puckering, but it was better than ripping out a ton of seams. I need to finish the lining tomorrow so I can sew it in during my nightly tv watching.<br />

And then I had to pack most of my house by myself with my two toddlers in tow. Luckily I put them in day care a couple of days and had some awesome friends to help out, but I won't be doing that any time soon. Anyways, I am finally back with my husband in Little Rock, Arkansas! The high was 40 degrees for the first week here. Coming from Florida where it had been reaching 80 it has taken some time to get used to. But that has meant a lot of time indoors sewing! And I am catching up on my list. Let's see...<br />
<br />
I got my Crazy and Twisted addition finished and sent on time:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/11393123825/" title="Making some pretty stuff today. #crazytwistedquilters Gonna finish tonight and will be in the mail in the morning!! by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Making some pretty stuff today. #crazytwistedquilters Gonna finish tonight and will be in the mail in the morning!! " height="400" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5506/11393123825_a18b4946c2.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
This sewing machine pattern is from <a href="http://www.charisecreates.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/design-studio-sew-out-loud-quilt-along.html">Charise Creates</a>. It wasn't terribly hard, just a lot of odd shapes. I enlarged the pattern 50% so it finishes (after having to trim it down square) at 17 inches.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/11396861406/" title="Crazy and Twisted twist 1 by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Crazy and Twisted twist 1" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/11396861406_f104d579ef.jpg" width="300" /></a><br />
I added 1" squares on either side and stipple quilted it on below the initial block. And added some buttons in the button jar!<br />
<br />
I also finished up my Cookie swap!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/11396887804/" title="Cookie Swap Package by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Cookie Swap Package" height="400" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3754/11396887804_40985cfea3.jpg" width="300" /></a><br />
I made this <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/mini-swoon-paper-pdf-170">Mini Swoon</a> and embroidered it to make it like a big ornament! The green scallop is from Scrumptious and the red snowflakes are from my NEW local quilt shop. I've only found one close by, but I'm sure there are some hidden gems around town that I haven't found. I made some Christmas wreath cookies--my favorite! Basically rice crispie treats but with corn flakes and green food coloring. And I thought this tin from Hobby Lobby matched beautifully. My partner has commented that she likes it, I hope she likes it as much in person!<br />
<br />
I also finished and sent my November and December Simply Solids bee blocks. I didn't grab a picture of either of those because I was in a rush to get to a doctors appointment before I went to the post office. I am still working on my Nov. and Dec. Hex Bee blocks. For some reason hand work has been super slow for me this past month.<br />
<br />
Next on my list is a Granny Square quilt for my Granny. She is my mom's grandma and has always supported my crafty adventures growing up. She is spending a lot of time in the hospital or stuck in bed lately. So for Christmas my mom asked me to make her something with pretty colors and flowers to enjoy. I just finished the top and just trying to decide on borders then hopefully quilting it up this afternoon.<br />
<br />
I am excited to get some finishes finished up to share with all of you. It's been slow going since Thanksgiving and then being away from my sewing machine for 2 weeks. But I am all set up now and cruising along. My lovely husband even bought me this cute China hutch for all my fabric! I love it, but totally plan on refinishing it soon.Chelsie Chttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03858663567910541573noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396025283622096530.post-42861898862271505482013-10-28T20:39:00.000-05:002013-10-28T20:42:00.741-05:00MMQAL Addition<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Thanks for coming over from <a href="http://pennypoppleton.com/">Penny</a>'s! Have you been having as much fun with the Marcelle Medallion Quilt Along as I have? As I was getting close to the last border on my Marcelle Medallion I was getting excited about finishing (finally!) but then a little voice in my head said "that's it?" I mean I've spent the last few weeks almost exclusively and it's just shy of 60" square. So I looked around Instagram and saw that others had added borders of their own and decided that's what I must do! I fell in love with the churn dash blocks on the <a href="http://www.amitie.com.au/shop/Patterns/Jen-Kingwell-Designs/p/Midnight-at-the-Oasis-by-Jen-Kingwell-Designs-x907236.htm">Midnight at Oaisis</a> quilt and it was a quick decision after that. So with a stoke of luck I fell upon the best measurement to make these teeny tiny churn blocks fit. Border 7 ends at 57.5" and taking into consideration the seam allowances I found that 19 3" churn dash blocks will fit perfectly on one side. So I put together a mini tutorial for these tiny churns.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For one 3.5" unfinished churn block you will need to cut:</div>
<div>
From main color - 2-2" squares</div>
<div>
2-2x1.5" rectangles</div>
<div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">From background color - 2-2" squares</span></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"> 2-2x1.5" rectangles</span></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"> 1-1.5" square</span><br />
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">For border 7 you need 76 churn blocks plus 4 cornerstones. See the bottom for a special hint on the cornerstones!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">If you are cutting scrappy you will need 152 each of all the 2" squares and rectangles, but only 76 1.5" squares. I hope that makes since. I cut almost always from yardage so I like to count how many low volume prints I have (say 15 for this round) and then I will try to cut about 5 churns from each print-give or take on a few. </span><br />
<span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">So once you have all of your squares cut it is time to start assembling your blocks.</span></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipMcxFFgdA4TPREdfKI-P1LNDRGR8HqIic6M6_39J60wFriptH6fj7QK5XTEOP6lpY-in6WbQK-FjXZFthl9UPKghPPtzgXvlIOhnRewuAAdb-W7ILnLWk4EN3aYBwiCpBkMzAksPVNEs/s640/blogger-image--1299248722.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipMcxFFgdA4TPREdfKI-P1LNDRGR8HqIic6M6_39J60wFriptH6fj7QK5XTEOP6lpY-in6WbQK-FjXZFthl9UPKghPPtzgXvlIOhnRewuAAdb-W7ILnLWk4EN3aYBwiCpBkMzAksPVNEs/s640/blogger-image--1299248722.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Put the rectangles right sides together and sew down both the short sides. Where I have drawn a line here: (ignore the squares for now) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitGTIztEuyFopjJHAmhrQK3k5cqtLZ8pT9uFS1z2TVNot66R8sYz6gL1QPOG2NQqh_NGoTnuryh-opFUEsx9_3glpitNxzA8VMlftYv5UvYXff7bIEx1GLUBTfE28zfaAdayGrwaneHQo/s640/blogger-image--1479270485.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitGTIztEuyFopjJHAmhrQK3k5cqtLZ8pT9uFS1z2TVNot66R8sYz6gL1QPOG2NQqh_NGoTnuryh-opFUEsx9_3glpitNxzA8VMlftYv5UvYXff7bIEx1GLUBTfE28zfaAdayGrwaneHQo/s400/blogger-image--1479270485.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Once both sides are sewn bring it to your cutting mat and cut 1" down the middle (parallel to the sewing lines. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Once pressed open they should measure 1.5" square. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHyN6Q1HfHd9EDABJPjqx2SvnXTskIN3dI7_ObpsZyCiA8s43ZjwojnmcsYrLELVeBWNTJ926gboZUo3xkAur6jntvBXDHoCWcGXgfexRvwk3MFm2N49zsf1jp8xGwVr0aUoUPWlOfCZc/s640/blogger-image-1441488255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHyN6Q1HfHd9EDABJPjqx2SvnXTskIN3dI7_ObpsZyCiA8s43ZjwojnmcsYrLELVeBWNTJ926gboZUo3xkAur6jntvBXDHoCWcGXgfexRvwk3MFm2N49zsf1jp8xGwVr0aUoUPWlOfCZc/s400/blogger-image-1441488255.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Next take the 2" squares and make Half square triangles (HSTs as they are usually denoted.) place two right sides together. Sew down either side of the diagonal. Press then trim to a 1.5" square. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgACHCOagMzpVIErA6z1YrCMi1Rwnzqn39hEYlkququn8gbFHcp4NVI-w1AJygKGFzfd-SLUAdx2GN-Vj6YbehA6GzkTjiIqsLIm216PylbQ7pI3s9joPvCbMOR_fCAJdvQU2UE6SoQIBw/s640/blogger-image-1419907707.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="206" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgACHCOagMzpVIErA6z1YrCMi1Rwnzqn39hEYlkququn8gbFHcp4NVI-w1AJygKGFzfd-SLUAdx2GN-Vj6YbehA6GzkTjiIqsLIm216PylbQ7pI3s9joPvCbMOR_fCAJdvQU2UE6SoQIBw/s400/blogger-image-1419907707.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Once everything is pressed and trimmed you can lay them out as so:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf5-gduK91b4pAJ_m5UEprxPc-I5ijeOZhBrQNz4VMDau1vjemqUCPByU5WEC62GHYukCAwiAqzECXb3TPZ5OdrP-qleUplHT2rPw0AqzjFEdWONhQUaKFVySHpQw_cKIT7HZyt_syvPQ/s640/blogger-image-865282040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf5-gduK91b4pAJ_m5UEprxPc-I5ijeOZhBrQNz4VMDau1vjemqUCPByU5WEC62GHYukCAwiAqzECXb3TPZ5OdrP-qleUplHT2rPw0AqzjFEdWONhQUaKFVySHpQw_cKIT7HZyt_syvPQ/s400/blogger-image-865282040.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Looking good! I like to bring them over to my machine and chain piece as much as I can. I haven't figured out how to do multiple at a time, but I assume lots of organization. </div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVk41MY302drM30PAfa73dKOm5T9vB-5dfBky9f8wrv29Vqx4AXi6gwwbs6-YfYVG6gE3hpmlTJ4uwzVB4L8KcDyvLPOWWtWzYgUC2xDM0RVBjJquXpL8g_tISQU7d0EYbTgXVwcgZ16w/s640/blogger-image--440256503.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVk41MY302drM30PAfa73dKOm5T9vB-5dfBky9f8wrv29Vqx4AXi6gwwbs6-YfYVG6gE3hpmlTJ4uwzVB4L8KcDyvLPOWWtWzYgUC2xDM0RVBjJquXpL8g_tISQU7d0EYbTgXVwcgZ16w/s400/blogger-image--440256503.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
Sew the squares into rows:</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ZEvh9AlKmeGWUwn6ipKbvg7WEDNuD4qlcBXaYzcnw9QXzteWfZQ5ay62Tj-q3gbYBrjtb_S-cl-OfslHfRHfxmSgY2LB2N1hTX684ym_3SkmlQi7ltn-6DrLFo3i7cHLLXyqcOdXVDI/s640/blogger-image-1690011055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2ZEvh9AlKmeGWUwn6ipKbvg7WEDNuD4qlcBXaYzcnw9QXzteWfZQ5ay62Tj-q3gbYBrjtb_S-cl-OfslHfRHfxmSgY2LB2N1hTX684ym_3SkmlQi7ltn-6DrLFo3i7cHLLXyqcOdXVDI/s640/blogger-image-1690011055.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Then the rows together to complete the square!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6QFRy8r-ZS638uYY8_K3MjeCo73XonUOCxuytW_Zw3tsUOyZgjGQLJi5TLVpIq0N8JKwx77UQd1Dr7B-1w0rLFAD2mBZ20R2xHKDwXunQZ5_3LlDRRoyOCqPfaugeX28101UfCnmMWQ4/s640/blogger-image-992667481.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6QFRy8r-ZS638uYY8_K3MjeCo73XonUOCxuytW_Zw3tsUOyZgjGQLJi5TLVpIq0N8JKwx77UQd1Dr7B-1w0rLFAD2mBZ20R2xHKDwXunQZ5_3LlDRRoyOCqPfaugeX28101UfCnmMWQ4/s640/blogger-image-992667481.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I've also tried pressing open and to the dark side and neither one seemed better than the other. Maybe a little easier to sew through on the open seams, but quicker to press to one side. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh321pU8bexYmmVMmk0O4LWW9SCV5XPZnh4UGsUD0APcWxPU6DOxUpL71MGAajnzODzf5qXiQMU3iXi8_hxfHAY8EZjF-__M2oHciPxRueQn_zVcNPrPJoVu_f2-N07HopMcsaH5nkGWJ8/s640/blogger-image-475028660.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh321pU8bexYmmVMmk0O4LWW9SCV5XPZnh4UGsUD0APcWxPU6DOxUpL71MGAajnzODzf5qXiQMU3iXi8_hxfHAY8EZjF-__M2oHciPxRueQn_zVcNPrPJoVu_f2-N07HopMcsaH5nkGWJ8/s640/blogger-image-475028660.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For the cornerstones:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I will be using an inverse churn block! Using the main color as background and the low volume as the main print. As you can see from above. If you don't want to make those extra 4 churn blocks, you can simply use 3.5" squares for some rest amid the craziness.</div>
<br /></div>

But it is so easy just to turn on the tv to get some free time to sew away. I've been instagraming (follow me at cleargirl811 over there!) a lot these past weeks but no updates over here. And then I was thinking about all my WIPs and asked myself "why do I do this?!" I have so many projects started or fabrics pulled. I made a list:<br />
<div>
First up is my Crazy & Twisted starter. I am looking forward to this travelling quilt bee, but not too much for the shipping prices! I've started here with this fabric pull: It's due to ship off by the end of the month.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9694434675/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="First quadrant done! by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="First quadrant done!" height="320" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2823/9694434675_55448114fd.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9594575892/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Initial fabric pull by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Initial fabric pull" height="201" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7345/9594575892_f1b0db1e49.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Remember this star quilt? I finished quilckly and have all the fabric for backing, but I still need to get it together. I think I will straight line quilt in the main star so I can tackle it at home.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9159946937/" title="And less than 24 hours later she's done! Thanks @jenib320 for the tutorial. Now onto the back. Tonight? <br />
On Monday I am taking this simple patchwork quilt and trying my hand on a long arm machine! An old family friend just moved close and said I could come try it for free! I think I will pay her to finish if I don't get it all done myself.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9139274219/" title="Jungle patchwork progress by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Jungle patchwork progress" height="400" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3751/9139274219_1ca3224b7c.jpg" width="362" /></a><br />
<br />
I have this cute constellation fabric cut into 4" squares just waiting to be sewn together, but I just haven't had the time between bee blocks and other projects I've been obsessing over.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/8632136986/" title="Beautiful Constellations fabric by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Beautiful Constellations fabric" height="306" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8520/8632136986_46f4b90de8.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
I also need to...<br />
1. finish quilting my Bella Hex Quilt (almost there!)<br />
2. Buy a backing and quilt the Modernized D9P (top done)<br />
3. Put together my LV octagons (Blocks complete)<br />
4. Finish my "Home is..." hand worked wall hanging (in the hoop)<br />
5. Work on my sister's Christmas wall hangings commissoned by my mom (fabric pulled)<br />
6. Briar Rose Inside Out quilt top (fabric pulled)<br />
7. Chicopee Scrappy Trip (all cut!)<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
But for the goal this month I really want to finish the quilt top for my Granny. She is going to dialysis and I know she really could go any day although she has kept kicking through a heart attack, amputation from diabetes, and kidney failure. She's a fighter. So I want to make this flower filled quilt to brighten up her days indoors and keep her warm during treatments. Here is my inspiration from Canoue Ridge Creations:<br />

I chose to receive the 13 fat quarter bundle of these delicious organic fabrics Koi for Coud9. I am so excited to make something great with them.<br />

<br />
I do have a plan in mind: this adorable <a href="http://iheartlinen.typepad.com/i_heart_linen/2012/08/my-entry.html?pintix=1">pieced hexagon quilt</a> from<span style="font-family: inherit;"> <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 19.453125px;">Rashida Coleman-Hale who also designed the fabrics. So once these goodies came in the mail I ripped them open and took some pictures as part as the Quilt Photography Workshop link up over at <a href="http://plumandjune.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-quilt-photography-workshop-august.html">Plum and June</a>. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 19.453125px;"><br />
</span></span> <br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 19.453125px;">I take all of my pictures on my iPhone. I know they aren't the best quality, but my only other camera is a 5-year old point and shoot and I just don't have time to take it out then upload them. And to tell the truth, my phone is just as good. Hopefully next year I can get a nice camera and take a class how to use it! I am completely lost on all things like that, but I would love to learn.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVrkXs9DLQ-3CR1YXuU07b3V0MrL245vGdiAEzhNGKzTZsdZZD28oMSbdXeAUC6MjfDuPE9BnIPB6JYg_k43VfyGcc9nbSzD8TnG_pjp4f4FW3yEGxFXi2BSMNI0goawZUquCUnY8Di5A/s640/blogger-image-2135368670.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVrkXs9DLQ-3CR1YXuU07b3V0MrL245vGdiAEzhNGKzTZsdZZD28oMSbdXeAUC6MjfDuPE9BnIPB6JYg_k43VfyGcc9nbSzD8TnG_pjp4f4FW3yEGxFXi2BSMNI0goawZUquCUnY8Di5A/s640/blogger-image-2135368670.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So I will stick with my iPhone photos for now and just enjoy the simple click and shoot and easy editing right on my phone. And I upload them from my phone too. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Don't you just love this line? I love these blenders above. I can see the fish-inspired scales, but it doesn't look fishy. I was expecting the main fabric with the koi on it to be a little more navy, but it is a beautiful deep royal purple. So I won't be making a boy quilt with this stack, too many pinks and purples. </div>

But I must say my favorite print is this charcoal plus print. I want to buy the voile yardage and make a fun dress.</div>

Good stitches. I chose to make red, white, and blue airplanes. It is so easy to make baby girl quilts, so I am trying to do boy quilts and mainly older ones. So I received all these wonderful airplanes from some lovely ladies all over the country.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9579242538/" title="Almost done! by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Almost done!" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7457/9579242538_c3d865db97.jpg" width="316" /></a><br />
<br />
I actually had 2 too many! But I decided to leave them out because it was easier to make the 4x5 configuration for a nice sized toddler quilt and fit better with the minky backing. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9527158558/" title="20 airplane blocks pressed and ready to be trimmed (with my new Olfa splash!) <br />
I did free-motion loops and clouds quilting on the top with the batting. My machine has been having tension issues and I was afraid to free-motion on minky. So this was the best choice. I think it turned out great. I love all the texture on the front. Here is a close up of the quilting: Loops and Clouds! I just went for it and I'm very happy with how it turned out.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I love the solid red minky on the back and the nice textures on the top. And no binding! I always procrastinate on binding, so I decided to skip that part too. It seems like I did a lot of short cuts, but this had just as many steps as a normal quilt.</div>

<br />
Here is my finished quilt with my lovely husband taking a break to hold it up for me. He's so sweet with giving me extra time to sew and staying up with me late while I try to finish. It has been raining every day here, so trying to get a picture has been difficult. So dreary and no sun!<br />
<br />

<br />
And trying for inside wasn't any better. These little monkeys wanted right on it. I guess it's a hit! I hope so because this quilt is my <a href="http://fiberofallsorts.blogspot.com/2013/08/august-lovely-year-of-finishes-finishes.html?m=0">Lovely Year of Finishes August goal</a> (goal setting <a href="http://chelsiecreates.blogspot.com/2013/08/alyof-august-goal.html">here</a>). Welcome today for the Studio Spotlight! Linking up from over at <a href="http://ellisonlane.blogspot.com/2013/08/studiospotlightlinky.html">Ellison Lane</a>. I work in my dining room and store my supplies in my son's closet (what? He's not using it! Haha). This week I took it upon myself to make it more presentable. And more workable. This is what I was working with before:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsz9O7Njdo-NaLnBo4ITp2SIYBpo5IQD5VjwE9apR2WZt9cigpWU2d8_1Pm4RHB9eZ2fQCqG4UGEHfeTve3ag-RKRUUhwQhzZneuHY-5Zq306SrrLf-JHf9Wx2aKLXKpO2668aOqp4g5k/s640/blogger-image-1964462474.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It really just got out of hand from not sitting down and organizing it after I would come home with new fabric and not putting things away correctly. So I locked the kids out of the room (and left them with the husband, not alone!), and pulled almost everything out. I refolded all my fabric and sorted better.</div>

It is usually a mess and I have a lot of cleaning whenever anyone comes over, but I'm glad to have a space to create and enjoy my family. I am just hoping that our next house is a little easier to close off. I hope you enjoyed stopping by and come back again! I have a few mini tutorials coming up including my favorite way to do minky blankets and sewing bulky corners with paper piecing. Thanks!</div>

I saw this on <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/107875353547633539/">Pinterest</a> and of course you had to pay $40 for just the tracing paper with the pattern, so I decided to figure out how to do it on my own. I researched different ideas on how to transfer patterns onto fabric. I finally decided to put up the pattern up on a window and trace onto the fabric with a frixion pen. I know there has been some debate on how good the pen erases, but I've never had problems and it was the best transfer pen I had on hand.<br />
Here is my set up on my back door. It wasn't quite wide enough, but I made it work.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9424726598/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Hand Quilted Love by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Hand Quilted Love" height="400" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2862/9424726598_007fc5ced1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I found <a href="http://www.mrprintables.com/printable-map-of-the-united-states.html">this printable</a> to use. You can print large engineering prints at Office Depot and Staples for under $5, but since I wanted to get started right away, I printed it off on my computer using the poster option. I just taped it together and put my 1 yard of white Kona right on top and got to work. I did all the tracing in the afternoon light where it isn't direct so that it wouldn't heat up too much. Then after I was done tracing, I thread basted it together with some batting and a solid blue back (Ocean Kona I believe).<br />
I first worked on running stitches along all the state-to-state borders (the dashed lines). They went by pretty quickly. My advice is to do the longest connected lines first such as the Mississippi River that is the longest connected line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO6YdRd-MnKlWlYzTDQbYN_5oN4mspVsZH8iHgTbUBsb__qq9EdwTTpfLEURBluA0HglEIPamXNwIoVHHvE5n0thYD7uJOI6YrdckLbKxO82zawJ_r_CN8qDxzImwSYehVUQHEFM-r3E8/s640/blogger-image-1837077077.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO6YdRd-MnKlWlYzTDQbYN_5oN4mspVsZH8iHgTbUBsb__qq9EdwTTpfLEURBluA0HglEIPamXNwIoVHHvE5n0thYD7uJOI6YrdckLbKxO82zawJ_r_CN8qDxzImwSYehVUQHEFM-r3E8/s400/blogger-image-1837077077.jpg" width="372" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I was ready to venture onto some embroidery. I found <a href="http://www.needlenthread.com/2009/10/hand-embroidery-lettering-and-text.html">Mary Corbet's Needle n' Thread's Lettering Tips and Tricks</a> and sat and watched all of her videos. I learned so much! They are easy to follow and she has a ton of helpful tips. I first wanted to try out some of the stitches I would use on a smaller project, so I stitched up with little initial with satin stitch. The leaves are herringbone, stem is stem stitch, and there are a few little french knots thrown in. I'm glad I practiced the satin stitch first. It's a little shaky on this project, but I got better the more I did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/9448047500/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="First try at embroidery by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="First try at embroidery" height="400" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2818/9448047500_64caaccf68.jpg" width="346" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
This is what I have finished so far. I am excited to continue, but I really need to put it down to work on some deadline projects (i.e. the triple zip pouch swap, a kindermat cover for a friend, August's bee blocks).<br />

When I started this adventure I did not have any pearl 8 cotton, so of course I had to buy some. And I needed a place to store it. So I used my newly purchased Juliana Racquel fabric from Joann's and <a href="http://blog.imaginefabric.com/2009/04/how-to-make-fabric-bowl.html">this tutorial</a> to make a cute bowl. I didn't have double sided stabilizer, so the one side it is a little bunched, but still adorable.<br />

I got the last blocks in not too long ago and I'm trying out some different layouts. This is the first idea I had. I have put up a design wall after this picture, but right now I have a WIP taking up most of the room that I need to finish up first. </span></span><br />

I was thinking about raw edge appliqueing clouds all over once it's pieced together. I might incorporate it into my quilting.<br />
<br />
Speaking of quilting...the last times I've tried free-motion I have had crazy tension issues. And every time I use the zig-zag stitch my thread starts bunching funny and breaks. I guess I'll have to take my machine in to get serviced soon. At least I have the 1 year check-up for free. So while that is in the shop, I'll shall keep busy with these:<br />

<br />
And this:<br />

<iframe allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="710" scrolling="no" src="//instagram.com/p/cnWOMBlhIA/embed/" width="612"></iframe><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">It is a h<span style="background-color: #fefefe; line-height: 20px;">and quilted map with "Home is whee the Air Force sends us" at the top and a little embroidery for each station. I've done this center portion this evening off and on while I can and I'm pretty happy with the results. The finished quilt will be a wall hanging that finishes about 36"x40" that I will be proud to hang up at every new house. </span></span><br />

Some other blogs post multiple times a week, and I feel lucky if I get something written down a few times a month! But I'd like to think of this as my starting point.<br />

I haven't had nearly as much time as I would like at my sewing machine. Between a long 4th of July weekend vacation and getting a nasty stomach bug, I've only had a little time to get my bee blocks done and only a little personal sewing. Here is what I've been working on, although all of this was done over a week ago.<br />

Here is what I have so far for the backing of my Bella quilt. It took quite a long time to get all those points and corners to line up. And I am still about 10" short on the bottom. I can't decide if I want to piece together a bunch of scraps of the gray flowers or just use the blue plaid to finish it more quickly. For the quilting I think I might work from the back and do a giant spiraling hexagon.<br />

I'm finally starting to feel better, so hopefully I can finish up a few special projects this weekend and get them in the mail by Monday! I hope to post some pictures sometime next week for you all.</div>

I was queen for my simply solids in May, Get Your Hex On in June, and Inspire for do. Good stitches in May. So I have about a million blocks to figure out how they go together and make blocks to fill them out. So my goal this month is to finish my do. Good stitches and simply solids tops. I know if I don't do it I will put them away for a couple months. Here are a few good pictures of what I've been up to:<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My sweet husband took these pictures for me.</td></tr>

<br />
This next dress I used Girl Charlee fabrics again (<a href="http://www.girlcharlee.com/anchors-away-nautical-blue-stripe-cotton-spandex-blend-knit-fabric/girl-charlee-p-6755.html?cPath=145">like these stripes</a>). I followed a tutorial for drafting my own t-shirt dress (found here at <a href="http://icandyhandmade.blogspot.com/2012/01/tutorial-my-favorite-tee-dress.html">iCandy Handmade</a>). It turned out pretty good, but I would change the sleeve construction a little--they don't always want to lie down so nicely.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">With a tie</td></tr>

For the tie, I just cut a long length at 2" and double folded it. Not entirely pleased with it, but until I find something cuter it will work.<br />

First I was just busy with the kids at the pool and library, just enjoying summer. Then I had some family come into town. And I was procrastinating some of my bee blocks. Why is it some months I just have no inspiration for the blocks requested? Well that happened, but I finally kicked myself in the butt and finished them up this weekend. So to make up for my little hiatus, here are a bunch of pictures from what I have been working on:<br />

But I still feel so proud of myself. All throughout May I kept procrastinating the things I needed to get done, so I just wouldn't sew at all. And lately I've had some troubles with my bees (cue complaints about the block I chose for my month, that I didn't send enough fabric, and so on and so on). I've definately been in a sewing FUNK. But after some time cleaning up my blog to make it look pretty (don't you love my new, clean look? I do!), I sat down and did some sewing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNLRX44fj2qvCcyvcf5v_Ix1Y4uejNkQH_7C_fioQ_Pvsz86gyZalgp0Hg9hXDUe4kY5HVANK7ZH3JRhC0j9qHEEWhavyekDTh5qcEllzDmjWtMtDWLWfe4Ke-nUtw97ogCOC0vDBOqVQ/s640/blogger-image-132050884.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNLRX44fj2qvCcyvcf5v_Ix1Y4uejNkQH_7C_fioQ_Pvsz86gyZalgp0Hg9hXDUe4kY5HVANK7ZH3JRhC0j9qHEEWhavyekDTh5qcEllzDmjWtMtDWLWfe4Ke-nUtw97ogCOC0vDBOqVQ/s320/blogger-image-132050884.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
First I finished this cute library bag. I actually finished hand stitching the binding on this morning and did the main bulk of the work yesterday.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7SgP_4NH-1Qny3N6bcIVf6v6MhD0ZeyZoT3taw0VxgncK8u5AVPygOiIiK8gq9KuvFy3knxVHIY3vgABqw6p-ys8b62qyplfrmKdd1A2L7Z1R1bglUBooCZk1sjlhMudfVTDOH96hX_c/s640/blogger-image--2146291138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7SgP_4NH-1Qny3N6bcIVf6v6MhD0ZeyZoT3taw0VxgncK8u5AVPygOiIiK8gq9KuvFy3knxVHIY3vgABqw6p-ys8b62qyplfrmKdd1A2L7Z1R1bglUBooCZk1sjlhMudfVTDOH96hX_c/s400/blogger-image--2146291138.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I used my Bernina's alphabet stitches to quilt inspirational quotes related to reading and books. I've seen <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/238831586459858817/" target="_blank">cute quilts</a> where they FMQ quotations, but I'm not that confident in myself yet, and it would have to be a bigger project than a book bag.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9I1iDrvHqMO4KuG8M8RZ0YosR94NGq6qGfvbLjOdQCCZymi4LbwRRAo0snPcHr-W2phj8Z7hsqhKJVKIqFKxKpmypY1v86WzvngaFDhcfdKQoa5gTZ5OhkU2Ud13pCHPSZ0ej_DeDZGk/s640/blogger-image-123608754.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9I1iDrvHqMO4KuG8M8RZ0YosR94NGq6qGfvbLjOdQCCZymi4LbwRRAo0snPcHr-W2phj8Z7hsqhKJVKIqFKxKpmypY1v86WzvngaFDhcfdKQoa5gTZ5OhkU2Ud13pCHPSZ0ej_DeDZGk/s400/blogger-image-123608754.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The other side is an adorable Alexander Henry print (funny story: I ordered this in February but it was put on back order and I forgot I had ordered it when it showed up on my doorstep one day late April.). I just traced around some of the books because I didn't want to distract from the adorable-ness of the fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9ivbhnwPRkyGsvCOlyzN1rran8JfmTaSeg19pRuQ_Xg1KyaTFzF2VCUvgGljfro3_6J3iaSqf6jcD5fzpmP_wf-AYV39UPpKIHz_mGdjVmuGk8krw9Epg0p_XKLULXq0uHgMzpOXqf2s/s640/blogger-image--1529847365.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9ivbhnwPRkyGsvCOlyzN1rran8JfmTaSeg19pRuQ_Xg1KyaTFzF2VCUvgGljfro3_6J3iaSqf6jcD5fzpmP_wf-AYV39UPpKIHz_mGdjVmuGk8krw9Epg0p_XKLULXq0uHgMzpOXqf2s/s400/blogger-image--1529847365.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I put the binding on the top of of each side and forgot that I had to add handles. Doh! But I think they work pretty well this way too. Then added a little bias binding to the edge and here it is! I wanted it good sized (I always get a bunch of books when I go to the library) and on that same note I wanted a comfortable strap, so it is extra wide and has batting too.<br />

<br />
I got the inspiration from Cluck Cluck Sew (see original blog post <a href="http://chelsiecreates.blogspot.com/2013/02/february-goal-setting.html" target="_blank">here</a>). I had finished quilting about a week or two ago, and never got around to binding it. I chopped up some cute grey wood fabric from the line at 2.25" and attached it to the back first. Then I pull it around to the front and top stitch it down. It looks cute in the front and the back has a little parallel line of stitches, but this is the easiest way for me to get it looking good. And look at those corners! They are my best ones yet! I made a t-shirt transfer label, but it wasn't the best quality. I think I am finally happy with my name/label/header thingy so I am going to get a yard of labels printed and start putting them on everything. =P<br />

<b>Fabric:</b> Les Amis by Patty Sloniger (I purchased mine from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/quiltedthimblecottag" target="_blank">Quilted Thimble Cottage</a>. They were nice enough to cut my 1/4 yards in strips instead of fat quarters, so it would be easier for this pattern.)<br />

And my third finish for the day:<br />
Just a little apron that I almost had finished, but just needed to hem the ties. This third finish just made me feel so accomplished! Don't you just love days when you get things done? They are the best!<br />

<br />
<b>1. Finish my Jungle Patchwork top. I've got all the squares cut and pieced into pairs, so it shouldn't be too hard. This will be my biggest quilt though at a twin size.</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxOhxHvS7NNrAeCy-JwjkPQsGklVqfk6H9Hqzyl6ugx9H0WidjMbUjaDm0Lqadrj9zzr6U5ifKX22GvykR9DTcdesxpVpAfTVJgQgnypcMiNX99dgYdrbv0vu2ZU4stjefa8qAnfzbllI/s640/blogger-image-1410670497.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxOhxHvS7NNrAeCy-JwjkPQsGklVqfk6H9Hqzyl6ugx9H0WidjMbUjaDm0Lqadrj9zzr6U5ifKX22GvykR9DTcdesxpVpAfTVJgQgnypcMiNX99dgYdrbv0vu2ZU4stjefa8qAnfzbllI/s640/blogger-image-1410670497.jpg" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
(The rest of these are if I have some free time)<br />
2. I just bought some adorable fabric from my LQS to make 2 new baby boy quilts. I want to at least get these planned out and cut.<br />
3. Make 2 wallets-one for a friend and one for my aunt<br />
4. Finish apron for a friend's birthday<br />
5. Don't buy any more fabric! I almost did it last month, but I gave in right near the end. I already spent my budget for this month...woopsies!<br />
6. I got these scraps with my pillow from the PTS and I think there is enough to make another cover for my odd ugly green rectangle pillow that I have on my couch right now. They will look cute together!<br />

I wanted to venture out of the hexagon world a little. At first I was going to do a quilt as you go hexagon block, but once I saw these octagons, I decided I wanted to go this route.<br />
So here is my plan...<br />
I've printed and cut 2.5 inch octagons and I am going to send each person one page's worth of hexagons and squares. I've included 3 blocks so you just have to cut 9 low volume fabrics at 3.25 inch square. Use any solid white/cream for the squares and then sew them into this configuration.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/8809494204/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Octagons! by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Octagons!" height="400" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8132/8809494204_2e1dcba940.jpg" width="359" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sew the rows of octagons together, add the squares in the corners, then add those rows together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
My definition of low volume for this quilt: it should have a mainly white background but it can have any accent color. I've put together a mosaic of fabrics that are acceptable (and I don't have any of these so feel free to use them)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

He has made a regular appearance in my pictures over the last year.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/8359305816/" title="Untitled by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8507/8359305816_334e6d1348.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
Actually he is the reason I started quilting--I wanted to make him a cute and cuddly blanket.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/8693124773/" title="Scout Quilt with Les Amis by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Scout Quilt with Les Amis" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8397/8693124773_2a7f507578.jpg" width="373" /></a><br />
And after I made one, I had to make more. Then I had to make quilts instead.<br />
<br />
So this week I don't have much progress. I haven't worked any more on the scout quilt (above), I've been busy with getting things ready for little one's birthday. The only real progress I have made is on some of my Pillow Talk Swap pillow. Here is the current layout:<br />

Well, thanks for visiting today! I am off to celebrate with my little big boy.<br />

I will not allow myself to buy any fabric this month. I am already having to stop myself, but until I start selling more quilts or making money somewhere else I just don't have enough room in my budget. Anyways, I have piles of fabric just waiting to be cut into, and even more piles that are already cut. Let's see...<br />
<b>Already cut up:</b><br />
1. Bella Hexagons<br />
2. Bella Hexagon scraps/Half Rectangle Triangles<br />
3. Constellations Squares<br />
4. Life in the Jungle Patchwork<br />
<b>Fabric ready to be cut:</b><br />
1. Chicopee Scrappy Trip<br />
2. Michael Miller Big Stripe Hexagons<br />
3. 50 Shades<br />
<br />
For my We Bee With it block this month she is requesting that we use a lot of different grays, so I plan on digging all of mine out and cutting them into 6" squares. I really want to make it king sized with 50 different "shades" of gray fabric. I think I am at about 25 now, so I'm halfway there! And I'm really excited to make my Chicoppe quilt, so I will start that this month too.<br />
<br />
So for my goal I am saying that I will:<br />
1. Finish quilting my Les Amis quilt<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/chelsiecreates/8694243484/" title="Scout Quilt with Les Amis by ChelsieCreates, on Flickr"><img alt="Scout Quilt with Les Amis" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8396/8694243484_62b51f5e11.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
2. Cut up all my grays (and finish that bee block)<br />
3. Not buy any more fabric<br />
4. Cut all my Chicopee strips<br />
5. Finish (and start) my Pillow Talk Swap Pillow (have it planned and most of the fabric pulled)<br />

<br />
I think this is a pretty obtainable goal, and anyways, I work better under pressure!Chelsie Chttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03858663567910541573noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396025283622096530.post-4584827076813007922013-04-29T21:54:00.003-05:002013-04-29T21:54:45.187-05:00ALYoF April -- I did it!I finally finished one of my goals! I'm so excited. <a href="http://chelsiecreates.blogspot.com/2013/04/alyof-april-goal.html" target="_blank">I set out to finish</a> my Les Amis quilt top and bind my Gypsy Girl quilt and I did both! I'm so glad I finished these finally, and I did both in one afternoon each. I don't know I had put them off for so long. I even have my Les Amis mostly quilted, so hopefully I can finish it in the next week or so and put better pictures up. But here are some to enjoy:<br />
